System Requirements

The Process Dashboard is 100% Java, and will run on any system with a Java 2 compliant virtual machine. This includes Windows, Linux, Unix, and Macintosh systems. For access to forms and scripts, a web browser is also required.

To use the process dashboard, you must first install the following software:

bulletThe Java Runtime Environment (available from Sun Microsystems). Version 1.6 of the Java Runtime Environment is recommended, but only version 1.5 is required.

bulletMake certain that Java and JavaScript are enabled in your browser. (This is typically the default setting, so you usually don't need to worry about enabling these unless you explicitly disabled them in the past.)

bulletIf you connect to the internet via a proxy server, you may need to tell your browser to bypass the proxy for the address "localhost".  The instructions below may not apply to your browser word-for-word, but should hopefully get you pointed in the right direction:
bulletFor Internet Explorer, choose "Tools > Internet Options". Click on the "Connections" tab, then on the "LAN Settings" button.  Make certain the "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" box is checked.
bulletFor Firefox and Safari, no changes are typically needed.
bulletFor Netscape, choose "Edit > Preferences".  Under the Category "Advanced > Proxies",  click the "Manual proxy configuration" button, and ensure that the "No Proxy for" box contains "localhost".

Installation Instructions:

bulletBefore attempting to install the dashboard, make certain you have installed the required software listed above. In particular, the Process Dashboard installer program will not run if you do not have version 1.5 of the Java Runtime Environment installed on your computer.

bulletDownload one of the Process Dashboard Installer programs below:
bulletMost people should download the web-enabled installer(This will connect to the internet to retrieve any optional packages you choose to install.)
bulletIf you need to run the installer from a computer that is not connected to the internet, download the offline installer.

bulletOn most systems, simply double-click on the file you downloaded to start the installation process. (If this does not work for you, read these instructions for launching the installer manually.)

bulletPlease consider subscribing to our announcements mailing list(This list is very low-traffic, typically receiving only a few email messages per year.) We will send email to this mailing list when new versions of the tool are available.

Add-on Process Sets

The following process does not come with the dashboard by default, but is easy to install.

bulletPSP for Engineers - a process designed for students taking the "PSP for Engineers I & II" courses.  This process creates, in one step, a work breakdown structure for all of the programming assignments. Requires version 1.7 (or higher) of the Process Dashboard. [Last updated: Apr 26, 2007]

To install an add-on process set:

bulletLocate the file "pspdash.jar" on your system.  (If you are on a Windows system, this file is most likely located in the directory "C:\Program Files\Process Dashboard".)
bulletClick on a link above to download the add-on process set. When your browser asks you whether you want to save the file or open it; choose Save.  Save the file into the directory you found in the previous step. (In other words, the pspdash.jar file and the add-on process file should be side-by-side in the same directory.  Do not overwrite the pspdash.jar file, just save the process file into the same directory.)
bulletIf the dashboard is running, you will need to restart it for the new processes to be found.

Team Dashboard

Team functionality is now included in the main Process Dashboard distribution, so a separate download is not necessary.
